K 3 – From the Castle to the Three-Borders Stone

Relacija

Gornji Petrovci–Kuzma – 33 km

The route leads over rolling landscapes and through forests. It starts at the Grad Castle, passing through the elongated village of Grad and on to Kuzma, from where it leads through the upper part of Matja±evci and along the border road with Austria to the three-borders stone at Trdkova.

You can take a shorter route from the three-borders stone to Martinje and the lookout point on Srebrni breg hill and see a forest education trail, while the longer route leads along the border with Hungary and rejoins the route in Martinje. Most of the route follows established forest roads. The route continues along a ridge, but soon turns left onto a dirt road which leads through the forest to the Lenarčič mill in Neradnovci and past Mrzli studenec, a spring from which pours cold, clear water, and on to Culinci.

Following the valley of the Merak stream the route continues towards Boreča, and passes the “balloon” – a memorial to the landing site of a stratospheric research balloon in Renavlje. In the lower part of the village of Boreča, turn off the asphalt road onto the forest road which leads to a clearing in the middle of the pine forest, in which stands the Church of St. Anne. The route then turns onto a dirt road which leads through the shady forest past an old junction of forest trails called Kriµarka, and then back to Slovenia’s largest castle in Grad.
