Kobilje–Dobrovnik

The route begins in front of the primary school in Kobilje and leads towards St. Martin’s hill. At the first junction you can turn right towards the Vugrinec winery, or continue on up the hill to the chapel, opposite to which stands a 200 year old service tree (Sorbus domestica, the largest of its kind in Slovenia), and from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the area.

After riding down to the main road, onto which you turn right, and take another right at the intersection, you come to a forester’s cabin and continue on to Popov’s hill, where you can see a graft from the world’s oldest grapevine next to the Chapel of St. Urban. Cycling past the reservoir you come to the center of Dobrovnik and the Church of St. Jacob. At the intersection you again turn right and head towards Lake Bukovnica.

Here you can enjoy fishing, boating, recreation and picnics. You can also visit the small Church of St. Vitus and the famous “Vitus’ Spring”. From Bukovnica lake you follow the forest education trail to Kobilje, where you can see the church with its renowned Kregar’s windows, and in the park stands a wild service tree (Sorbus torminalis), the tallest and oldest of its kind in Slovenia and the neighboring countries. At Pannonian house number 189 there is a museum with exceptionally old documents, old machinery and money.
