Frequently asked questions

Will it be permitted to plant new permanent stands of fruit trees or grapevines?

New plantings will of course be permitted, and the park will additionally support the preservation of old orchards.
Orchard growing and wine growing is once again thriving in the Goričko region. During Austro-Hungarian times this was already an important area for fruits and wine. The are few old vineyards remaining due to the damage caused by wine lice, but there are still a lot of so-called meadow-orchards. These make an important contribution to the picturesque quality of the village settlements and hamlets, and in addition to offering a wide variety of fruits provide shelter to owls, songbirds and other endangered animal species. Many orchards and meadows are beautiful carpets of endangered and rare types of flowers, which together with the insects and butterflies form the true natural wealth of Goričko. The preservation of the meadow-orchards means a continuation of the tradition and at the same time the protection of field plants and a guarantee of healthily processed fruit. New orchards which would be planted in a similar way are especially desired in the park, but of course the park will not prevent the planting of new forms of row orchards and vineyards. Here it should be taken into consideration that the newly planned orchards should be planted away from the frequently used paths of wild animals, in order to avoid costly and unnecessary fencing of the orchards and vineyards.
