Frequently asked questions

Will the regulation of watercourses be permitted in the Nature Park; how will it be possible to build ponds and reservoirs?

Water management will be regulated with the Decree on the Foundation of the Goričko Nature Park.
Regulation and leveling of watercourses, the construction of ponds and the damming of natural springs are all included in water management, which is regulated by the Law on Waters. Surface water and groundwater are regulated by the Ministry of the Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy, Agency for Environmental Protection, Murska Sobota branch, water sector.
Due to the fact that many of the watercourses of Goričko are exceptionally well-preserved, which gives Goričko its special quality, a large part of them are also ranked as natural assets. There are numerous springs in Goričko, but they are not highly productive, and therefore all interventions which would change the water regime and the natural assets are regulated. Changing the water regime is especially harmful to those who are further downstream, since the change of the regime could cause the stream even to dry up. Of course the restrictions will not apply in cases and in sections where the creation of human material good is threatened due to the operation of water – houses, mills etc.
